Sunshine Cruz shares how she Taught her Three Daughters to be Wise in Spending: “Needs muna bago wants”

A lot of people know that the 42-year-old actress, Sunshine Cruz, is a very hands-on mom to her kids with ex-husband Cesar Montano.

Although their marriage did not last for a lifetime, they were still blessed to have three lovely daughters, Angelina, Samantha, and Francheskca who chose to remain in the custody of their mother after their parents’ separation.

Sunshine’s three daughters are already in their teenage years, that’s why she makes sure that she is passing on her good habits to her kid, especially when it comes to managing their own finances.

The 42-year-old actress is one of those celebrities who has perfected the art of being glamorous without emptying her wallet and she also wants her daughter to be smart with money, just like her.

In a previous interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), the celebrity mom revealed that she had trained them to prioritize their needs over wants, “Needs muna bago wants,” Sunshine said.

She shared some tips to encourage someone to do the same was to “lead by example” and by always prioritizing needs over wants. The mom of three explained, “Pag sumobra, parang you deserve a reward. Kaya yung shopping ay kapag may extra lang.”

The celebrity mom also added that she doesn’t like buying too much and spending on expensive items,

“Pero hindi rin ako yung mahilig sa mamahalin. Hindi rin ako ‘yung maramihan kung bumili.”

She went on to share that she managed to train her three daughters to be disciplined in terms of spending and they’re all “masinop”, “Ever since, ‘yung mga anak ko hindi sila natuto na maging magarbo, kasi lagi ko sinasabi sa kanila na laging unahin natin yung needs kesa ‘yung wants.”

What’s even more impressive is that her daughters also learned not to always expect that they can get what they want as she taught them that whenever they have extra or excess money, that’s the only time that they can buy something that they want,

“Ngayon kung meron tayong extra, e, ‘di for special occasion — birthday n’yo, Christmas or magandang grades n’yo— then that is only the time na ibibigay ko sa inyo yung like niyo,“ Sunshine shared.

“So sanay naman sila, napaka-simple din naman,” she added.

In the last part of her interview, the actress shared that she feels so “blessed” to have daughters who are obedient and not “magimik”.

According to her, they just like spending days at home together.

She then added, “And I just hope ganyan-ganyan lang sila, ‘yung masaya sila na magkakasama kami at kasama nila ako at dito lang sila sa house.”
