31-year-old Kapuso actress Jennylyn Mercado is very happy that she was chosen to play the role of Dr. Maxine Dela Cruz in the Pinoy adaptation of the 2016 South Korean television series Descendants of the Sun.
The beautiful actress, together with her leading man Dingdong Dantes, who will play the role of “Big Boss” or Captain Lucas, started taping some scenes for the series a day after GMA-7 officially announced that Jennylyn Mercado bagged the lead role last Thursday, October 3.
It can be seen in the behind-the-scenes photos of Jennylyn’s first taping day sent to PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) by Jennylyn’s co-manager, Katrina Aguila that the actress already did some scene with her Descendants of the Sun leading man Dingdong Dantes in the hospital.
Another photo showed that she also did some scenes with Bobby Andrews, who plays the hospital director in the remake of the Korean series.
The Kapuso actress was also seen wearing her character’s surgeon uniform while listening to the instructions given to her by Dominic Zapata, Descendants of the Sun director.
Some photos taken on the set were also posted on Jennylyn’s Facebook page.
It was in 2016 when the Korean television series Descendants of the Sun first aired in the Philippines. The show starred famous actors, Song Joong-ki, Song Hye-Kyo, Jin Goo, and Kim Ji-won. The love story that revolves between Captain Yoo Shi Jin, Korean Special Forces, and Doctor Kang Mo Yeon, a surgeon at Haesung Hospital, became a big hit in the country.
On the same day of the official announcement, the Descendants of the Sun leading actress also underwent medical training to create better scenes for her role as a doctor.
Meanwhile, the Kapuso network has yet to announce the airing date of its adaptation of the hit Korean series “Descendants of the Sun”.
Prior to this, PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) already reported on May 1, 2019, that Jennylyn was chosen for the role of Maxine or the love interest of Captain Lucas via PEP’s Cabinet Files column. She was still busy at the time with her prime-time series, Love You Two with Gabby Concepcion.
But according to the actress and her co-manager, Katrina Aguila, it was only last September 16 when they received a call from the management informing them about Jennylyn’s inclusion in Descendants of the Sun Pinoy remake.
