Being one of the most sought-after leading men of today’s generation. It’s not surprising that the versatile actor and model Derek Ramsay live in this elegant house in the beautiful place of Palawan. This place is also known as one of the best vacation destinations in the Philippines, because of its beautiful islands, crystal clear water and overall calming vibe.
The 42-year-old actor and his family own two islands in this place and they also built a glass-and-steel beach house for the whole family in the town of San Vicente.
In 2013, their family began the construction of this stunning and elegant house. With Derek’s father, Daddy Derek Arnold, who was the one in charge of the structural design, while Derek and his mother, Mommy Medy worked together on polishing the interiors. Since they wanted everything to be open, they opted for a glass house that will allow them and their guests to take in the view of paradise.
Let’s take a tour around Derek’s glass home in Palawan:
The Façade
For the house facade, they invested in steel doors with tempered glass from Australia that can also be folded instead of the usual sliding glass doors. They also placed sleek and comfy chairs that define the outdoor space with big umbrellas from Bali serving as extra accents.
“We could have built a concrete house, but why? You have that in Manila, and you’re trying to get away from all the concrete jungle. We want it to be homey, and you feel you’re at the beach talaga,” Derek said.
Living and Dining Areas
The house features a spacious living and dining area which are perfect for entertaining many visitors. Derek and his mom fuse their tastes and ideas and the result was a modern theme with an Asian feel.
“We didn’t want to build a house that you see in a village in Alabang or Forbes Park. We want it to be really, like, pang-beach talaga. Anywhere you stand, you see the beach,” the actor shared.
Living Area
This part of the house has a warm and Asian feel. They placed a white sectional sofa facing the view of the beach, according to Derek, this sofa came from an Italian brand and was “the most expensive thing” in the living area.
You will also notice an interesting hanging lamp by Kenneth Cobonpue, the Limbo Acrobat hanging above the living area. There’s also a wooden seating piece and a set of three convex mirrors designed by Ito Kish for his Kish Stories from Canada line, which was arranged by mommy Medy, while above it is a set of three convex mirrors designed by Ito Kish for his Kish Stories from Canada line. Behind the sofa is a black Gregoria chair from the designer’s home line of Kish creation.
Another interesting design found in the living room that adds an Asian vibe are these temple drums from Tibet, which Derek found in an antique shop in Bacolod.
In another corner of this stunning area, there’s an Ito Kish’s Basilisa lounge that can accommodate more guests, while hanging on the wall is a Mayi Penaflorida’s artwork, Dear Bella.

Dining Area
When the whole family and their guest had their meals in this dining area it’s as if they’re dining under the stars or with the beauty of the sky as a backdrop.
It was his father’s idea to put tempered glass near the ceiling.
“So when we’re having dinner at the dinner table, it’s like eating outside. You see the moon and the stars. It turned out to be a very nice feature,” Derek said.
The owners also chose a piece featuring hanging orbs and fishes to brighten up the ceiling in the dining area.
They also purchased this 12-seater dining table in Manila, which was made from ‘dao’. Meanwhile, the customized dining chairs were bought from Cebu. Each of the chairs has a backrest showcasing the eight kinds of shells found on Palawan’s shores.
Kitchen
Since Derek wanted to have a nice kitchen, he invested a lot in the cooking area and got the Varenna kitchen system from Poliform. There’s also a chiller placed in a corner that holds different bottles of wine. To achieve a cohesive look, they choose white pieces that go well with the theme.
Another highlight in this area is this wall with different teacups, glasses, and some bottles of alcoholic drinks. The actor added that “The kitchen is not done yet. I wanted a really nice kitchen to look at.”
Derek’s Bedroom
For his own room, the actor chose pieces made by his favorite designers, Kenneth Cobonpue from Cebu and Ito Kish from Laguna. Kenneth Cobonpue’s Suzy Wong entertainment console and the Concesa cabinet by Ito Kish completed Derek’s room.
The Yin and Yang bed, the Little People hanging lamp by Cobonpue, and the sheets with hints of gold reflected his love for modern contemporary art.
Meanwhile, the works of art on the walls were done by Negrense artist Raymond Legaspi, it features plump women—one in a Superman suit and the other, a group of mermaids.
Master Bedroom
This bedroom has a whimsical feel to it, with the bed serving as the focal point. The four-poster all-white piece is made in Bali, Indonesia. There’s also a chandelier and a sofa with stripes design that adds a modern twist to the simple bedroom.
Mommy Medy made sure that the master bedroom was tastefully designed. She also shared that it’s somehow hard to complete the house given the effort it takes to bring pieces to Palawan from Manila. “Ang dami pang kulang dito. Wala pa akong rug, parating palang.”
Natala’s Bedroom
This stunning house has a total of six bedrooms, one of these has a distinct country charm, which is the room occupied by the youngest daughter, Natala. This bedroom was dominated by cheerful colors like yellow and green, it’s easy on the eyes and definitely relaxing.
The room has a charming bed, a dainty chandelier, and a beautiful view of the outdoors. Placed in the corner of the room is a tiny vanity area that has a storage ottoman in pale green instead of having a huge chair to maximize the space.
Bathroom
For the house’ bathroom, the family kept it simple with resort-like tiles, a shower enclosure, and a striking work of art dominated by red. They also made sure that there are interesting accessories and artworks that complement the whole look of the bathroom
