Kapuso broadcast journalist, Rhea Santos, will soon be leaving the GMA News and Public Affairs division, as she is set to fly with her family in Canada next week.
Santos, who is also known as the longest-serving and the most successful female morning show anchor in Philippine television history has yet to announce her departure on the morning show “Unang Hirit.”
However, the news started to abuzz after her fellow journalists and colleagues in the morning show “Unang Hirit” throw a surprise party for the veteran journalist. Santos and her friends were seen having a videoke party at a private venue, there’s also a banner greeting the journalist with “good luck.”
The said event was attended by her fellow journalists and friends in the industry, including Mariz Umali, Arnold Clavio, and Luanne Dy, who also shared some snaps taken from the said send-off party on their respective Instagram Stories, along with their well-wishes to Rhea Santos.
One of the photos shown in Mariz Umali’s IG Stories that gives a hint to the netizens was a photo of Rhea Santos holding a cake in the shape of the Canadian flag. Followed by a Facebook post on SOLID Kapuso Latest Updates (SKLU) last July 23, where she was said to be leaving the GMA Network to migrate with her family in Canada.
Based on a recent report by Abante, the 40-year-old veteran news anchor is scheduled to fly with her family in Canada next month and to also pursue an advanced study in digital journalism.
The same report said that Santos will have her last appearance on the morning show “Unang Hirit” this coming Friday, August 2, as this show gave her the big break in the field of media coverage.
In her last days as a Kapuso, Santos is set to give her statement on Unang Hirit that her fans and followers are surely looking forward to.
The 40-year-old news anchor became part of the longest-running morning show “Unang Hirit” since 2001. She then quickly rose through the ranks and became a pillar of GMA News and Public Affairs.
As one of the top news anchors of GMA 7, Santos was also picked to headline and join various GMA News and Public Affairs shows such as Pinoy Abroad, At Your Service, and then-channel 11 or QTV 11 primetime broadcast News on Q.
It was also reported that Balitanghali Weekend news anchor Mariz Umali, who has been a semi-regular on Unang Hirit since May, will be her successor on the show. But there’s no announcement yet as to who will replace her in the docu-reality show “Tunay na Buhay.”
