Honesty is being truthful with the decisions we make and actions we take every day, even when no one is watching. Just like the inspiring story of this honest and kind-hearted man that gives us hope that humanity is alive and goodness still exists in many people’s hearts.
Earlier this year, an employee of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) was lauded for returning an envelope containing a “significant amount” of US dollar bills that he found in the vicinity of a foreign exchange counter.
The man who exhibited this act of honesty, despite facing a big temptation was identified as the 30-year old janitor named Jeffrey Almoguerra, who is an employee of Philcare Manpower Services.
Based on the report, he is cleaning the lobby of the airport when he saw an envelope that contains cash money. Almoguerra then tried to look for its owner, but when it’s nowhere to be found, he immediately informed the security personnel to report the incident.
The security personnel then accompanied him to the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) Lost and Found Section where the envelope was turned over to the authorities.
Although the incident was already announced to the public, the amount has yet to be publicly disclosed for some security purposes, as the claimant needs to prove that he or she is the rightful owner since the envelope had no markings.
“The amount is not being disclosed as it will be one confirmatory information to be asked by MIAA authorities to possible claimants. He or she should know the exact amount and that will be the basis in returning the money to the owner,¨ the airport personnel said.
Meanwhile, Manila International Airport Authority, General Manager Ed Monreal takes pride in this display of honesty and has ordered to include Almoguerra among the recipients of an award during MIAA’s February flag-raising ceremony.
