15-year-old Student from Davao Builds a Mini Library in the Street for Kids Who Loves to Read

Everyone knows that reading books play an important role in learning. This can help improve our vocabulary, our communication skills, enhance our language skills, and develop fluency so that we can express our thoughts and ideas better.

Through reading, people can expose themselves to new things, new information, new ways to solve a problem, and new ways to achieve a specific thing. That’s why many find this unique idea of this young student from Davao City helpful because he’s encouraging children to read more books with his newly built “street library.”

With the help of his parents, 15-year-old Lorenzo Puentespina has decided to make a difference by opening his very own mini library called, “Lib of Positivity”.

This mini library is located along the street of Brgy. Wilfredo Aquino, Agdao, Davao City.

As seen in the photos, Lorenzo built bookshelves out of discarded fruit trays and filled it with books. On the left side of the shelves, there is also a concrete table with four chairs where children can sit while reading the books they borrowed.

The good thing in this mini library, it’s open 24/7 and has different kinds of books for all ages such as English, Math, Science, Physical Education, and Christian living

But aside from promoting love for reading, ‘Lib of Positivity’ also aims to introduce good behavior to the young readers. In line with that, they posted a list of rules and guidelines that everyone should follow, these include returning the books, arranging it properly, and sharing or donate some books to the library if they want.

In a recent interview with ABS-CBN News, the young student said that he took the initiative to make a mini library to help their community and he didn’t expect it to grow fast.

“I’m really happy of waking up, going outside, and seeing all these kids reading my books. I see the smile on their faces (and) it really makes my day,” Lorenzo said.

The young student also urged everyone to start their own mini library in their place.

“It would be amazing if you could start your own little libraries in your area. Why not spread the joy of reading there too?” he wrote.

He also shared a post on “Lib of Positivity’s” Facebook page that he would appreciate more book donations from anywhere in the Philippines.

People near their area can simply drop off their old books at the Lib of Positivity at Bolcan St. Agdao, Davao. They also have another donation center at Puentespina Orchids, Cedar Hills Garden Center, 57 Mother Ignacia St., Barangay Paligsahan, Quezon City.

If you have further questions on how to donate your old books, you can also contact Lorenzo directly from the “Lib of Positivity” Facebook page.
