Everyone is in pursuit of happiness. In our pursuit, we run to our family, friends, hobbies, and we form relationships. In a relationship, we are at liberty to choose the kind of partner that completes us. And when it comes to settling down, the same case applies.
Women, in particular, look for characters they are looking for in a man they want to spend the rest of their lives with. While some look for the kind-hearted ones, some women look for wealthy men to marry.
One story that went viral, for example, continues to serve as an eye-opener to all of us that at the end of the day, what really matters in love is what’s inside. The story also teaches us the valuable lesson of not judging a person just based on his/her social status, otherwise, you’d find yourself in deep regret in the end.
Long ago, a poor guy fell in love with a girl who was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. Despite coming from a different social class, the boy’s love for the girl was overflowing that he decided to propose to her one day.
The girl, however, turned him down, saying:
“Your monthly salary is equivalent to my daily expenses. How do you expect me to marry someone like you? I can never love you so forget about me. Go find and marry someone else of your level.”
Those words were so painful for the boy to hear so he left her alone, but his love for her remained. About 10 years later, the two bumped into each other in the same shopping mall. The girl, now a beautiful woman, immediately recognized the man and approached him.
“Hey, how are you? I’m now married to a very smart man, and his salary is $15,700 per month! Can you beat that?” she said proudly.
Despite how heartbreaking it was for the man, he held back his tears and said nothing to the girl he still loves. A few moments later, they were joined by the woman’s husband who recognized the man his wife was talking to earlier.
“Sir? G-good afternoon! I see you’ve met my wife!”
“Good afternoon too, Mr…?'” said the man.
“Mr. Carter, Sir!”
The husband then turned to his wife and said, “Dear, I’d like you to meet my boss. He owns the $100 million project I’ve been working on!”
The woman was so shocked she couldn’t utter a word. The man just gave them a smile and said, “Well, Mr. Carter. I’ve got to get going. I have important things to attend to. It was splendid seeing you today. Have a great day!” The couple stared intently at the man until he was out of their sight.
After coming to her senses, the wife asked her husband:
“That was your boss?”
“Yes, dear. He’s a very humble person, but his life is quite a sad story. They said he once loved a lady but she dumped him because he was just a poor boy back then. Because of that, he worked really hard. And because he’s smart, he became successful. Now he’s a multimillionaire who earns millions of dollars a month. Unfortunately, though, he couldn’t move on from that heartbreak and remains unmarried still.”
The husband added:
“How lucky would that lady have been if she had married that man?”
It’s true what they say – regret always comes last. People tend to judge others, say mean and hurtful things, without realizing how those could affect them. And when they finally do realize their mistake, it’s already too late. Moreover, it’s important to keep your feet on the ground no matter how ahead you think you are than others. The world is round and what goes up, at one point or another, always comes down.
