Australian prefabricated architecture specialists Modscape Concept have created a concept home inspired by the shape of barnacles clinging to the side of a ship.
They designed a stunning five-storey home that clings to a cliff’s edge and hangs above crashing ocean waves in the Australian state of Victoria.
Modscape’s Cliff House project was created for the Australian southwest coast and extends off a sheer rock face, anchored to the cliff with support metal beams.
“The home is visualised as a natural extension of the cliff face rather than an addition to the landscape, creating an absolute connection with the ocean.”
“The unique positioning also gives the home’s residents an incredible connection to the ocean below, while alleviating construction problems associated with building on uneven rock,” the Australian company said.
This futuristic home appears like a strange extension of the rocks that jut out from the top of the rock face.
Based on their website, the architects shared that their goal is to create ‘an absolute connection with the ocean.’
The concept home’s five floors are arranged in a vertical floor plan and will be stacked using prefabricated modules. While all the rooms or floors will then be placed at the top of each other and held in place with engineered steel pins, hammered into the rock.
Residents will have to enter the property at the floor level with the cliff top, which includes an outdoor patio adjacent to their parking space. There is also an elevator or stairs that connect each floor, with the bedroom, living area, and kitchen.
At the lowest floor of the concept home will comprise an outdoor space which seems to float above the water and provide a stunning view of the ocean.
According to them: ‘The interior features minimal furniture throughout, in order to emphasise the connection to the ocean and the horizon.’
This distinctive design started when Modscape Concept was asked by a couple exploring options for a holiday home to create a property on Australia’s southwest coast, where they owned some land.
But although the Cliff House is still a concept, this could provide an efficient and new housing idea for rocky areas that are considered unlivable.
