1 Month Water Bill Of A Family Reach Over P90,000 Earned Mixed Reactions from Netizens

A family was shocked when the water bill they received for just a month of consumption was at P92,203.10.

In a recent report on GMA News’ 24 Oras, the Quanico family complained in their program “Sumbungan ng Bayan” about their over P90k Manila Water bill.

According to them, their average monthly water bill is only about P2,000 for an average monthly consumption of 40 to 60 cubic meters.

But this time, the water consumption recorded in their bill from December 17, 2018, to January 17, 2019, has reached 1,477 cubic meters.

Jeric Sevilla, Manila Water Company, Inc. spokesperson cited several reasons that may result in an increase in the consumption reading of a household; a possible leak in the pipe or the customer has simply increased their water consumption.

After their investigation, the company found a leak in the water pipe servicing the family, which had caused the sudden increase in their bill.

To seal the leak in the pipes, the Manila Water company recommended “repiping.” However, they explained that the cost of such repair will have to be shouldered by the customers because it is not covered by their service.

But although the broken pipe has already been fixed and replaced, the family would still need to pay the full amount of the water bill.

The report said that the Quanico family already discussed the terms of their payment for their bill with the Manila Water company.

Manila Water is said to be the sole provider of water and wastewater services to more than six million people in the East Zone of Metro Manila.

They started operations on January 1, 2000, and became a publicly listed company on March 18, 2005. The company is also a subsidiary of Ayala Corporation, the Philippine’s oldest conglomerate, in partnership with British and Japanese investors.
