Look: Woman Aces Physician Licensure Exam While In Labor

A woman recently wowed many people after taking the board exams while on the verge of giving birth.

Recently, a young woman named Stefanelle Atienzar Sibuyan achieved two milestones: welcoming motherhood and becoming a physician.

Based on the report, she gave birth just a few minutes after taking the last set of her exam.

On March 11, the young woman was taking her Physician’s Licensure Examination (PLE) at the Mary Chiles Colleges in Sampaloc, Manila when she felt labor pains.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News on Wednesday Stefanelle said:

“It wasn’t easy to act normal smiling at my proctors that time, because they don’t know I was already in labor.”

“Knowing that my due date falls on March and PLE falls on the 1st and 2nd week. I never doubted myself that I can still push thru with this. Siguro lakasan na lang din ng loob, tiwala at dasal,” she added.

In a now-viral Facebook post, Stefanelle recalled how she powered through her labor pains just to finish the board exams. She also said that a week before the board exam, she was already 1 to 2 centimeters dilated and 60 percent effaced. However, she continued attending reviews and read her materials at home while lying down because it was her lifelong dream to become a doctor.

Just right before the start of the last two days of the board exams, she experienced spotting and eventually her water bag broke, but she has decided not to tell anyone, not even her partner, knowing that they would rush her to the hospital.

When Monday morning came while she’s taking her exam, her contractions were between 15 to 30 minutes apart. She finished the first exam, the OB-Gyne test, in just an hour and tried resting while regularly checking on her baby’s movements and heart tones.

“I just read all the test questions once and answer it right away. Maybe it’s divine intervention. I just think of finishing the exams ahead of time so I could rest a little bit at breaks,” Stefanelle said.

During her last exam, she is already experiencing regular contractions every 3 minutes. But she tried to act normal in front of the proctors although she’s having a hard time answering. She finished the exam in 20 minutes, then hurriedly left the room after submitting everything.

Stefanelle went down to where her partner was waiting for her and hey tried to go to the hospital where she is supposed to give birth, but she cannot hold it anymore. Luckily, the testing site has a hospital and that was where she delivered her baby. She was rushed to the delivery room at 3:15 p.m. and her baby was born at 3:38 p.m., 13 minutes later.

“Glad I delivered normal. Kasi pagka-transfer ko sa katabing hospital I’m 10 cm fully dilated na. Konting push na lang. I think nakatulong yung paglalakad ko nung nagbubuntis pa ako,” she said.

Three days later, she learned that she passed the board exams despite the difficulties she faced while struggling with labor.

However, her baby boy had to be readmitted to the hospital because he suffered from neonatal sepsis, after spending more than 12 hours in the womb after the water broke. Thankfully, her baby is now recovering.

Stefanelle said that she never thought that sharing photos of her week-old baby and her experience on Facebook would become viral.

“I am speechless, grateful…sobrang thankful din ako sa well-wishers for their warmest greetings; sa parents namin na all throughout support right from the start, sa partner ko who never left my side,” she said.

She also went on to thank her baby’s pediatrician, her OB-GYNE and all the nurses and staffs including the guards at the college who assisted them.

“At higit sa lahat kay God, who is the reason for all of these success. Ino-offer ko lahat sa kaniya ‘yun. In return, I’d be a healer just like Him,” she added.
