Inspiring Story Of A Household Helper Graduated Cum Laude

Although college is an exciting phase and a happy experience for most, college life is not without its rough patches. There are also stressful times where students must learn how to balance learning and responsibilities, especially for working students.

That’s why many netizens admired the story of this woman who graduated with flying colors, while working as a household helper.

Lucille Guiquin graduated cum laude with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management from STI College.

After graduating from high school in 2006, Lucille, who was from Negros Occidental went to Manila together with her aunt to work for Roland Benzon’s family, she was then assigned to look after Roland’s son named Josh.

According to Roland Benzon, Lucille is very responsible and focused when it comes to her work. In fact, he had never seen Lucille using her cellphone while taking care of his son.

He also said that they saw her true potential when she helped Josh create a reviewer and a sample exam all on her own by reading his books.

Impressed by her action, they have decided to help send her to college after his son turns 10.

They kept their promise and sent Lucille to college. At first, Lucille faced challenges in balancing her duties as a household helper and fulfilling her responsibilities in school, but eventually, she was able to adjust to it.

She formed a routine that would allow her to manage her work and studies all at the same, but her first priority is still Josh.

She said, “Minsan po nagkakasabay ang aming exams ng alaga ko. Ginagawa po namin, siya muna rereview ko tapos ako naman.”

That’s not all, to help lessen the amount of her school fees, Lucille studied well to become part of the Dean’s List to get a 25% discount on her tuition.

“Proud din po ako sa sarili ko dahil nakaya ko lahat-lahat ng mga challenges sa aking buhay kahit na malayo po ako sa aking parents at mga kamag-anak, na nakaya ko pagsabayin ang pag-aaral ko at pagtatrabaho,” Lucille added.

Hats off to this brilliant and hardworking woman and to the whole Benzon family for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity they have given her.
