Like many Asian countries, the Philippines has very tight family relations. While growing up, Filipinos are taught to prioritize family first.
To many, being the eldest among the siblings means sacrificing a lot despite an early age. Sometimes, Filipinos are more tolerant of the youngest, and eldest children take on the traditional role of being the breadwinner.
But under a few circumstances, this isn't necessarily the case especially when the eldest child already has a family of his/her own to support.
The text exchanges between two siblings that went viral online is an example of the rare case scenario. Contrary to what Filipinos are used to seeing or hearing, the younger sister seemed to become the family's breadwinner as her older sister kept asking money from her for roughly a year.
The older sister was said to have a job and clearly, has a family of her own which she always used as a reason to ask monetary assistance from her sibling.
The exchanges of words between the two went on every month and the younger one would always say mean things to her sister. To some, it would appear that the older sister is just milking money out of her sister and turning a blind eye on the situation.
Nonetheless, the sending of money continued for a whole year. Just like those who 'lend' money to a sibling or a relative, the younger sister unfortunately never got her money back.
But there came a sudden twist of fate when the younger sister lost her job and had to go back to their hometown, but the only money she had left was the fare just enough to go home. So naturally, she asked for her older sister's help knowing that she lent her money for so long. Assumingly, it wouldn't hurt to help her in return, right?
Apparently, the older sister had been expecting the circumstance all along! Knowing her younger sister's lavish lifestyle, she took up the risk of saving for her future. Of course, it was painful for her whenever her sister would say hurtful words to her, but she had to bear it all. That's how much she loved and cared for her sister.
