Gone are the days of just having a dog or cat as a pet, because now people are getting more creative with their pet choices than ever before. Just like this cute story of a Malaysian girl who has decided to take an extraordinary pet.
But this girl didn’t buy her pet in a local pet store, she surprised her friends and family by buying a ‘Balut’ egg from a restaurant and have herself a delightful little pet duckling.
It started when the 39-year-old Erica Lim, from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, bought a fertilized duck egg in a Vietnamese restaurant in Puchong that sold uncooked balut two years ago.
Balut is a popular Filipino snack, made from a developing bird embryo that is boiled and eaten from the shell. The Malaysian girl had bought one on impulse and decided to hatch it at home.
Curious about what might happen, Erica built a makeshift incubator from a Styrofoam box and some heat lamps and placed the egg inside.
After two weeks, the egg finally hatched and a cute little duckling was born and Erica became a “mother”.
Erica immediately fell in love with the duckling she named Daisy, but often calls it by her cutesy nickname, Bibit. Since then, her experiment has turned into a loyal friend covered in soft feathers.
“Ducks make wonderful companions. My Bibit is charming and attentive. I hope more people realize how much fun it is to have a duck as a pet.” – says Erica.
The cute little duck grew up into a majestic duck who loves water and often sneaks into the bathroom to splash around in the tub.
But if she does not squeak in a while, it means that she’s up to something. In many cases, Erica finds her destroying something in the bathroom.
Bibit also loves watching movies and Netflix’s shows or reading a book with her owner.
In fact, there was even a time when Erica managed to sneak Bibit inside a local cinema for a movie date. To her surprise, she behaved well and went unnoticed as they watched the movie.
According to Erica, Bibit lays an egg every 25 hours, which means that she has an unlimited supply of eggs that she loves to share with her friends and family.
