Noah, from Cumbria was diagnosed that he had only 2% of brain tissues before he was born. Four years later, the little boy stuns doctors with the development of his brain. Check out this amazing story!
In 2011, Shelly and husband Rob Wall were expecting a little boy. Unfortunately, when she was in the third month of her pregnancy, the doctors told her that her baby had multiple health problems, including a rare complication of spina bifida, severe hydrocephalus, and chromosome abnormalities.
Because of this, they were told that if he survived birth, he would be severely mentally and physically disabled.
Doctors predicted that Noah would not make it before he was born or at birth that’s why the couple was advised to terminate the baby since he had very small percentage to survive, but Shelly and Rob refused to do it.
In the documentary, “The Boy Without a Brain,” Rob Wall said that they were offered a termination five times.
“We were offered termination five times,” he said.
“It was never an option for us. To me, we wanted to give Noah that chance of life,” he added.
Instead of preparing a warm welcome for Noah’s birth, Shelly and Rob were planning for a funeral for him as the doctors told them that Noah would not make it to birth.
On March 6, 2012, Noah defied all odds.
“The first thing we heard when he was born was him taking a breath and then crying, which was unbelievable,” the mother recalled.
Noah was found paralyzed from the chest down, but what really matters to his parents is he’s alive.
Moments later when Noah was born, he had to undergo surgery to clear the cerebrospinal fluid which caused pressure on his brain.
He was later allowed to go home but would return to the hospital on numerous occasions due to his other health complications.
However, the little boy remained strong and proved to the doctors were wrong and defy all odds when he showed everyone that he could sing, talk, and sit straight up. In fact, Noah’s brain is developing beyond all expectation.
What’s more surprising is when the doctors found that his brain has expanded and his brain cells multiplied unlike when he was born.
When he was three years old, the doctors took a brain scan that shows his brain has developed to 80% of a normal brain.
“[…] to hear his brain’s almost back to normal is beyond belief,” Shelly said.
“Rob and I broke down when we heard the news. It was like a dream. I’ve never known anything like it. Every time we see the doctors, they just shake their head. They’re just amazed at what he can do,” she added.
The brave little boy now attends a local primary school, he has learned how to count to ten and even hold a pen.
Aside from his own journey, Noah is helping other children who have similar conditions through his brain scans and rapid progress. These scans are used in studies regarding spina bifida.
The future is still uncertain for Noah, but his parents are grateful for every moment they have spent with him. The little boy and his family believed that he would be able to grow up healthy as miracles do exist.
According to his doctors, Noah’s brain is now nearly fully-functional and that he could develop like other normal kids.
