Children today are part of a digital generation where technology is everything. In fact, they can have access to so much knowledge and information with just one click of a button. But with the growing influence and liking towards social media, it’s very important to remember the essential role books play in our lives.
Nowadays, it’s so alarming to know that the majority of teenagers are scrolling and using social media instead of reading books and magazines. Thus, leaving many bookshelves lying in dust with hardly any takers.
Luckily, this Nonprofit organization called Little Free Library is helping to ensure we keep our innate love of books alive. Their goal is, “inspiring a love of reading, building community, and sparking creativity by fostering neighborhood book exchanges around the world.”
These little magical libraries are popping up in places, with over 75,000 libraries provided in 88 countries as of the moment.
In Coeur d’Alene Idaho, USA, this family made the coolest thing we’ve seen so far when this librarian, artist and former bookbinder, Sharalee Armitage Howard decided to make the perfect setting for a ‘Little Tree Library’ outside her home.
According to a report, she said that this huge cottonwood tree in their yard was starting to rot and had become a danger for parked cars and in the sidewalk, but instead of destroying this 110-year-old cottonwood tree, she transformed it into something useful for the entire neighborhood.
“Someone willing to take the time to give new life to a stump would never cut down a healthy tree to do it,” the artist told Bored Panda.
“The average lifespan of a cottonwood tree is merely 40-50 years… so it got to live more than twice that already!” she added.
The stump was carved out from the inside, topped with a roof and installed with a cozy, magical look. She added a door with glass window panes and put some steps and lights for a truly fairytale look.
We can only hope that these little magical libraries can continue to inspire future generations to pick up books to enrich their intellectual abilities through reading.
