Polygamy is the practice or custom of having more than one wife or husband at the same time. Some say that men, by their very nature, are “wired” to be polygamous. If they do not get to practice polygamy in the correct, responsible, and ethical sense of the word, they will practice an unethical form of serial polygamy involving mistresses and prostitutes.
Despite polygamy being banned in Thailand since 1935, some locals continue to practice such thing up to now. Earlier this year, a Thai man has gone viral on social media after netizens uncovered him for having four wives who, surprisingly, do not mind sharing him with each other.
One of these women, Waraphon Pruksawan, is legally married to him. In spite of this fact, all the children born to him and his other “wives” take his surname.
Pruksawan recently shared on her Facebook account their happy household photos and responded to a few of the netizens’ inquiries. She said it is better for her husband to be open about his relationships with women rather than having an affair behind her back.
The legal wife also asked netizens to not worry about her. She added that before his husband takes on a new wife, he has to get her permission first. Saying that she married him not for money, but because they have been through a lot together, Pruksawan said:
“The entire family loves one another. I’m proud of my husband.”
Some male netizens voiced their envy for the man’s relationships with four women, while many disparaged their looks, saying they do not look like the gender they are ‘supposed’ to be.
Apparently, this family is not the only one in Thailand practicing polygamy. 42-year-old Manop Nuttayothin has also gained fame after getting himself two wives regardless of Thailand’s legislation.
