A Woman Who Used to Ask Money from Her Sister Was Given a Machete and a Hammer Instead of Cash Because of a Very Wonderful Reason

Hannah came over her sister Esther’s house one day. Sadly, her visit did not receive a warm welcome from the latter for she knew what Hannah’s true intention was – to borrow some money.

Hannah always comes to Esther’s house to borrow money but with a different excuse every single time. This time around, her sister stood her ground. She did not want Hannah to get used to getting what she wanted that easily or else, she would never change her ways and would do the same thing over and over.

On that day, Hannah did not even think twice and told her sister right away that she needed some money. “Esther, I do not have much money left. Could you lend me $400?” she asked shamelessly.

After hearing her sister’s frequently used monologue, Esther gave her a smile and told her,

“Hannah, I will give you $800 this time but first, you have to help me.”

Hannah was initially stunned as to how her sister reacted calmly unlike some other days where she would rather give her a long sermon first before she would lend her some money. Nonetheless, she was excited to accept the offer.

“What can I help you?” Hannah asked Esther out of excitement. “I can do anything that you want me to do, trust me!”

“Well, there are stacks of firewood in the backyard but I could not chop them as I could not find my axe but there is a machete and a hammer you can use to chop the woods. If you could get them done by tonight, I would give you $800. But on two conditions, you cannot let anyone help you or use anything other than the machete and the hammer,” Esther said.

Hannah proceeded to the backyard and counted the woods she must chop. All in all, there was 200 firewood. She had three hours until the sunset to chop each wood into four parts.

At first, Hannah was so confident that she could finish the task given to her but apparently, it was way harder than she imagined it would be. After an hour, she became slower and slower, with her hands full of blisters from all the chopping. That’s when she decided to stop.

Hannah was too exhausted to continue the task. With her face flushed with embarrassment, she informed her sister that she could not finish the job. Surprisingly, Esther still handed her the money.

“Here is your $800. Take it,” Esther said.

As Hannah took the money, she realized how her sister’s hands were calloused and full of blisters from working so hard in order to earn a living.

“Hannah, I just want you to not live like this ever again. You will not be able to stand on your own feet if I let you to ask money again. When I asked you to not chop the woods with an axe, I wanted you to learn that no jobs can be done without effort. You are still young. Use your time to learn something. I just wanted the best for you,” Esther explained.

After that day, Hannah decided to work, save for herself, and never ask for money from her sister ever again. She finally realized that one significant way to change her life is by working hard.
