It’s not unusual in the Philippines that beauty queen ends up joining showbiz to pursue a career either in TV hosting or acting. As it turned out, there are a few local actresses who, although did not win prestigious beauty pageants, were able to join similar contests before.
Needless to say, their prior experience as beauty queens contributed to how they become the stars that they are of today.
1. Gabbi Garcia Gabby started to compete at a young age. She has won titles such as Little Miss Solane in 2014 and Miss Skin White 2011.
2. Sanya Lopez Sanya used to join beauty contests before entering showbiz. As reported by GMA News, her family and friend encouraged her to try as she was reluctant at first.
“Sa umpisa, talagang kabang-kaba ako, pero once na nananalo ka na, doon mo mafi-feel na ang sarap pala manalo. Ang sarap palang sumali sa pageant,” she said.
3. Mikee Quintos Mikee is the reigning Miss Architecture at the University of Santo Tomas. She can still recall the question asked to her.
The question was, “Ano ang masasabi mo sa mga nababastos dahil sa kanilang pananamit?” to which she answered, “What we do, we do it for ourselves not for anybody else. Kung magbibihis kami, this is to make ourselves happy, not to please anyone. So it’s never an excuse na dahil sa suot or sa hitsura ng babae ay puwede mo silang bastusin.”
4. Not known to many, the 29-year-old Kapamilya actress Bea Alonzo was a beauty contestant before pursuing a career as an actress. In fact, the British-Filipina was discovered by a fashion designer while she was participating in a beauty pageant. That moment marked the beginning of her journey to stardom.
