Amazing Story: This Woman From Uganda Gave Birth To 44 Children And Promised Never To Abandon Them

Women these days choose to have fewer children because they wanted to invest more in each child to give them the best opportunities in life. Also, due to some reasons like the high cost of living, expensive childcare, and career.

However, that is not the case for this woman named Mariam Nabatanzi from Uganda who gave birth to 44 children.

For Mariam, life hasn’t been easy as she had no choice but to live as a married woman at a very young age. According to her, she was only 13 years old when her parents sold her to a man who was 27 years older.

During that time, Mariam didn’t even know what was going on until she was left at the man’s house.

After a year, she had her first babies, twins, the next year, triplets and another year there were quadruplets.

She never received support from her husband even if they have many children. Because of this, she found marriage to be a hard journey, “My husband had many children from his past relationships, and I had to take care of them because their mothers were scattered all over.

“He was also violent and would beat me at any opportunity he got, even when I suggested an idea that he didn’t like,” Mariam said.

When Mariam had already had 23 children, she did think of getting a procedure so she wouldn’t have any more children. But after the examination, the doctor told her since her ovary count was high, getting any procedures would put her life in danger.

Mariam gave birth to a total of 44 babies; 6 twins, four sets of triplets, three sets of quadruplets and two other children. Out of the total, there were also another six that passed away.

But despite her situation, the mother believed that her children were a blessing from God, and she has no regrets having them. Although, she did voice out one thing that upsets her is that her children had to grow up without a father figure.

Her husband would often disappear for months, sometimes even years, and eventually, he left them completely.

In spite of that, she said that she would never abandon her children like her husband and her parents did. Because of that, the dedicated mother has an important message for all parents in her culture:

“Stop selling your daughters to men for early marriages. They suffer too much, and the loss of parental love is something that they can never fully recover from.”

“Do not forget your responsibility, because marriage is a joint responsibility to raise your children,” she said.
