Two years ago, country musician and model Jaimie Wilson has begun living his truth by coming out as a transgender man, both to his parents and his social media followers.
From a young age, the 21-year-old Floridian always knew he was male, but grew up traditionally feminine as he never knew a way to describe how he was feeling coming from a conservative and religious family.
“At first I was scared to come out as transgender because I didn’t give any ‘signs’ as people say,” he wrote in an Instagram post. “I looked and presented very feminine…not because I wanted to but because I felt pressured to make the people around me happy.”
It wasn’t until 2015 when Jaimie made the brave decision to start transitioning from female to male in the face of countless obstacles, first by cutting his then long locks and wearing men’s clothes.
Two months later, he started looking into hormone replacement therapy and potential doctors who would provide him with it. He acquired his first injection of testosterone a month later at the Howard Brown Health Center in Chicago, documenting the moment on social media as well as the next progress he’s made.
After 2 years of testosterone treatment, surgery and hard work at the gym, Jaimie has sculpted himself into the man he’s always been at heart.
After his recent set of before-and-after photos going viral, it seems like not everyone is happy with his transition. While he was originally criticized by people from his hometown for being too feminine to become a man, he’s now facing criticism from people in the transgender community for being too masculine.
One of his most recent motivational messages via Instagram let his over 300 thousand followers see that not all transgender stories are exactly alike. He stated that there aren’t any specific perimeters to follow when transitioning or a one-size-fits-all representation.
There’s just no getting around it. This inspirational man is shutting down stereotypes and his self-confidence is absolutely contagious!
