Man of God Proves His Love for a Woman Who Suffers from an Incurable Skin Condition by Getting Engaged with Her

It may seem like an obvious statement that most men value beauty in women. Whether we like it or not, we are being judged by the way we look. We may not want to admit it, but physical appearance is often the first thing that attracts us to someone else.

But on somewhat rare occasions, you stumble upon someone who doesn’t care about your looks and accept you for what and who you are, just like Edmilson Alcântara from Ceará in Brazil.

As a man of God, he understands very well that what’s on the inside is far more important than what’s on the outside. The 23-year-old has proven that he doesn’t long for outer beauty by getting engaged with his 28-year-old girlfriend Karine de Souza just recently.

What makes their love story stand out from the rest is that Karine suffers from a rare skin disease called Xeroderma pigmentosum, but Edmilson never did once leave her side.

Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP) is a very rare skin disorder where a person is highly sensitive to sunlight, has premature skin aging, and is prone to developing skin câncêrs. XP is caused by a cellular hypersensitivity to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, as a result of a defect in the DNA repair system.

Due to the disease, Karine experiences skin symptoms and changes from being under the sun. These include unusually severe sunburn-like blistering, a sunburn that lasts much longer than expected, excessively dry skin, and rough-surfaced skin growths to name a few.

Currently, there is still no cure for XP, so treatment focuses on any problems that are present and preventing future problems from developing. For Karine, the disease has had a big impact on her self-esteem and socialization with other people.

Thanks to her supportive friends and family most especially to her fiancé who make it a point that she gets to live a normal life. The couple also puts their trust in God and keep Him the center of their relationship. For Edmilson, he fell in love with Karine for what beyond the physical eyes can see, regardless of the judgments from strangers.

The story of the couple was posted by Daniel Panisson Fotografias on Facebook, with the caption:

“Have you ever felt love? Have you ever thought about giving up a great love? Have you ever cared about appearance and forgot to worry about feeling? Then I invite you to feel and live the story of Karine and Edmilson.

A story so beautiful and full of inspiration that will awaken in the most beautiful sense of life in you. In a world where appearance matters more than the feeling, they met it was not by chance, it was a meeting of souls, a meeting of acceptance and character and love arose when their souls met and today they are an inspiration for so many people who do not believe in themselves, in life and especially in love. Karine De Souza, 28 years, from Fortaleza, diagnosed with ‘xeroderma pigmentosum’, a rare, genetic, non-contagious disease that has no cure just treatment.

This disease creates injuries through contact with ultraviolet light. But for Edmilson, 23, from Ceará. The disease did not stop a beautiful love story. And I can say, having portrayed the love of this couple has brought me peace and a lot of inspiration for the soul.

The acceptance, protection and all affection involved between the two of them, has made me see that love is not lost. Karine’s acceptance made me see how useless we are to complain. I only ask one thing, be thankful every day for being who you are. Stop complaining for being what you are. Embrace life and accept. Much gratitude for teaching me so much. You guys are amazing. You are the hope that is lacking in so many people. Thanks for the strong hug, and for the wonderful day we live together. I carry your smile with me forever.”
