Drowning Dog Clings on to Her Life Hoping to Be Rescued

It’s estimated that India has 30 million stray dogs. Luckily, there are existing organizations which devote their time to helping these poor, homeless creatures.

Animal Aid Unlimited, for one, is an animal rescue hospital, sanctuary, and compassion center based in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India founded in 2002. Their mission is to rescue hurt or sick animals and provide shelter to those who need life-long care.

In the video caption, the people behind Animal Aid Unlimited wrote:

"We got a call to rescue a dog fighting for her life after falling in a deep well. She may have been swimming for hours before a villager saw her and called our helpline. She was quickly losing her strength and could barely hold on to the sides of the well."

On the footage below, a cold and terribly afraid dog can be seen struggling to stay afloat down a deep well she had somehow fallen into. From the look on her face, it's clear that she had been in the water for quite some time.

Her paws were already bloody from trying to hold on to the sides of the pit. Occasionally, she would lose her grip and desperately swim around for a few seconds before regaining her hold. It truly is saddening to see such a scene - a helpless dog who is about to drown.

Luckily, the rescue group mobilized upon receiving a call and arrived just in time to save the poor dog.

A man was lowered into the well with a rope wrapped around him and a net to capture the dog away from the hell pit. The dog swam right up to him like she knew that he was her only chance of surviving.

Scooped into the man's arms, they were finally lifted up onto solid ground. They immediately took the dog away to check on her wounds.

It's a relief to see the dog saved in time by these amazing people. She can finally live out her days healthy and happy.
